Eileen Gu, a 15 years old Chinese teen grabs gold at international Alpine ski event. She has won two gold medals for China at the Australian New Zealand Cup, currently being held on New Zealand’s South Island.

 

Eileen Gu became a Chinese citizen in early June and success comes just after two months of her citizenship. Earlier, she had competed for the United States. She earned her first gold as a Chinese athlete in the women’s slopestyle event on August 15 and gets her latest win in the women’s Freeski halfpipe on Wednesday.

 

Chinese media outlets have hailed her as a “genius skier girl,” and fans have admired the young athlete on domestic social media platforms. A hashtag about Gu’s recent success had been viewed over 160 million times on Chinese microblogging site Weibo.
