Located in the southwestern part of Bregenzerwald in Voralberg, Damuls-Mellau is known to be the biggest ski area of the Bregenzerwald region. The picturesque mountains, along with infinitely extended skiing area provide a perfect getaway place to relax and chill for couples, families, and friends. It withholds the beauty of two beautiful villages which are small but a sure beauty for the eyes, mind, and soul. It is offering options of ski touring along with sun terraces, umbrella bars, snow parks, panoramic views and wide open landscapes.

Spread across the middle of the Bregenzerwald, ski area covers 109 km (67.7 miles) of snow ladened slopes, 29 lifts, and cable cars. There are 89 km (55.3 miles) of perfectly polished pistes. Skiers with intermediate and beginners skills can explore the fun-filled slopes of ski area here. For fast track beginners, there is the availability of many easy red runs, and in overall, most of the easy, wide blue runs are located on the side of Damuls. Above Damuls as well, are many beginners’ runs for second-time skiers.
Also, here you need to be prepared to ride chairlifts for the non-availability of nursery slope skiing to down the valley of the base level. Slopes are wide enough for beginners to take long routes with turns. The ski area here above Damuls faces southeast, is treeless, ensuring a ski run in good sunlight bath slopes. Damuls attracts with its in and out accommodating spaces in the ski run area, provides restaurants, umbrella bars, and a few sun terraces. On the other hand, above Mallau about 25 km (15.5 miles) on the slopes facing north of the Rostelle isn’t that sunny but offers appreciable snow conditions till late spring. There are some blue runs for beginners which are majorly north facing reds and blacks.
Best suited for intermediates, there is a mix of red, blue and black runs covering 39.9 km (24.8 miles), 37.8 km (23.5 miles), and 1.7 km (1.05 miles) respectively. In addition are ski routes covering some 2 km (1.24 miles) of the trail, with options for skiing off-pistes challenging much for advanced skiers. There is a total of 79.4 km (49.3 miles) of slopes along with 17.7 km (11 miles) of ski routes for the purpose of skiing and snowboarding. Slopes which are a mix of easy and challenging are for everyone. Open terrain sets as a major point of attraction for many riders.
Slopes which are connected to Mellau is provided via a ski tunnel. It is important to know that the neighboring Faschina ski resort isn’t connected by slopes or lifts but by ski bus from Damuls-Mellau. The longest run is Mellau Valley run of length 7 km (4.3 miles) and elevation difference of 900 m (2952.8 ft). The most difficult ones are Sunneg steep slope in Damuls, stretching over only 1 km (0.6 miles) and elevated at a difference of 350 m (1148.3 ft) and Suttis steep slope in Mellau, also stretching over 1 km (0.6 miles) and elevated at a difference of 250 m (820.2 ft).
The ski resort offers six-person chairlifts with weather protectors. There is a new lift called Mellaubahn gondola lift with the capacity of 10 persons going up to the Rosstelle. Also, at Rosstelle, is an eight person chairlift with facilities like child safety restraint and seat heaters. Mellau and Damuls are connected well by this modern eight-person gondola lift. A double chairlift from Oberdamuls connects to the ski resort. For beginners, pommel lifts and tow rope lifts are in options. In total, 19 ski lifts with a total capacity of 37160 passengers per hour covering lift length of 19.4 km (12.1 miles) in total. It offers two circulating ropeway/gondola lift, 13 chairlifts, 2 T-bar lift and two rope tows. 6 sunkid moving carpets are also there.
Skiers can use The Bregenzerwald 3 Valley ski pass for Damuls-Mellau as well as other neighboring ski resorts like Faschina. It costs around € 100 for three days and € 170 for six days. Also, there is 50% discount available for young children, even less for teenagers and senior citizens.
Not just skiing, there is a bunch of pocket full more activities. Toboggan run, cross country skiing across the ski area are some to name the places to go out for relaxing and chilling.
In Uga, spread across 3.5 km (2.2 miles) is a natural toboggan. At night you can access lift only by extra card and on rent from Madlener Sport and Sports Natter. The open timings are 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm for day and night. Natural toboggan of 800 km (497.1 miles), situated in the heart of Mellau, remains illuminated all days except Monday and Wednesday from 6 pm to 9:30 pm.
Cross country trails covering 16 km (9.9 miles) are mostly in the higher mountains and 22 km (13.7 miles) of well-groomed ones at the valley of Mellau for all types of skiers.
Long with cross country skiing, there are 22 km (13.7 miles) of groomed winter walking trails. This is also used for the purpose of horse-drawn sleigh rides and lit romantic trails. To make the best out of your trip consider using the map locating winter walks routes including 20 hotels, and mountain restaurants separated by foot distance. You can enjoy walks up to the distance of 1.5 km (0.9 miles) to 6.5 km (4.03 miles), taking time of 45 minutes and 3 hours.
Enjoy night sky view while skiing along with some beats in Faschina, every Thursday evening from 6 pm to 9 pm. It is free for skiers with valid passes. If you are a ski lover and haven’t tried night skiing before, this is your best opportunity. Skiing down the slopes in the backdrop of the night sky is something truly ethereal. Thirteen hotels in total, the best is 4-star category hotels which are Hotel Gasthof Adler in the heart of a village, Hotel Damulserhof, Hotel Alpenstern and Hotel Landle in Damuls. Some 3-star hotels which are ski in and ski out are Walliser Stube, the Hotel Gasthof Walisgaden, Berggasthof Elsenalpstube and Berggasth of Sonnenheim. If you wish to stay in the traditional essence of the place, there are mansions, self-catering apartments, and private houses, all of which can be booked online.
Seven hotels in total, the best one in Mellau is a 4 star superior Sonne Lifestyle Resort again the heart of the village. Amongst 3 star hotels, the best ones are Hotel Baren and Hotel Engel, both of which are located centrally too.
In Damuls, late in the night, there’s not much happening. Guests mostly stay in hotels to chill out because the majority of the hotels are lines near to the ski area. So, the ski resort invites families and friends comfortable it raising toasts in their hotels. Also, many skiers from the nearby villages return after skiing.
