Merga Butan Ski Center in Turkey’s southeastern province of Hakkari will be going to have its first hotel with a maximum capacity of 100 beds. The decision was pushed by the authorities’ desire to make the center a popular choice for tourists.

Hakkari Governor’s Office and Eastern Anatolia Development Agency (DAKA), signed a protocol for the establishment of the hotel. Gov. Idris Akb?y?k during the signing ceremony said that thanks to this project, skier’s accommodation problem will be solved. He also said that the ski runway at the resort has recently been extended to 3,200 meters long with the support of DAKA. The chair lift project is 95 percent completed.

“There is a great potential of ski tourism over here. The snow stays on the ground for the longest period in our ski center compared to other ski centers in Turkey. The ski season lasts here for six months. There is huge demand over here especially from Iraq, Iran and nearby provinces,” said Governor Idris Akbiyik.
