Italy was announced as the host of 2026 Winter Olympics at the 134th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Monday. Milan-Cortina received 47 out of 82 votes cast.

The Italian ski resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo and the city of Milan has been chosen for the co-host of the Winter Olympics.  Italy bid to host the winter Olympics 2026 has faced competition from Stockholm and Åre in Sweden only, after four other bidders, Sion in Switzerland, Sapporo in Japan, Graz in Austria and Calgary in Canada, dropped out of the race due to concerns over the scale and cost of hosting one of the world’s biggest sporting occasions.
