In
order to attract more foreign skiers and boost ski tourism, Japan to renovate
ski resorts. The Japanese Government is going to select 10 to 15 skiing venues
by a nationwide public offering and help revitalize them into resorts for
longer stays as skiing is becoming lesser popular in Japan. The government will
consider increasing the variety of eating and drinking outlets, as well as
improving the transportation network between ski resorts and downtown areas to
encourage longer stay at the resort. They are also planning to include events
to enjoy at night.
The
number of foreign skiers has increased rapidly in Japan since 2013. In 2013,
the number of foreign skiers was 300,000 and it was increased to 860,000 in
2017. Most of the tourist skiers are from China, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan,
