Located in Switzerland, Les Portes du Soleil is a beautiful ski resort that offers 580 km (360 mi) of slopes for skiing and snowboarding. The base elevation is 1000 m (3281 ft.) while the summit goes as high as 2466 m (8091 ft.). The winter sports area has a total elevation difference of 1466 m (4810 ft.). It is spread over two countries: Switzerland and France and is one of the largest ski resorts in the world for more than 50 years. It offers numerous winter sports for skiers and non-skiers of all ages.
There are 170 ski lifts through which visitors can access various parts of this large ski resort. The majority of these are chairlifts (74). There are 9 gondola lifts, 70 T-bar lifts, 2 aerial tramways and 15 beginner lifts. Apart from these standard lifts, there are 2 moving carpets for children and 2 people movers. The total distance covered by the lifts is 147.9 km (92 mi). The average lift capacity is an incredible 251,380 passengers per hour. Blue slopes- About 54% of the total runs are easy. They cover 310 km (193 mi) of the slopes. These slopes are wide, manageable, and usually situated near the base practice lifts. There are various ski schools available where you can learn skiing under professional guidance.
Red slopes - If you want to test your skiing skills, you can try out the red slopes in the area. Covering a length of 210 km (130.4 mi), these slopes constitute approximately 26% of the slopes.
Black slopes - For the thrill-seeking skiers, Les Portes du Soleil offers a tremendous 60 km (37 mi) of the total no. of slopes. The most difficult run is the Chavanette (Champéry) with 50% steepness gradients. It is 1 km (0.6 mi) long and has an elevation difference of 330 m (1082 ft.). Try out these black slopes to get a taste of adventure as you race down the slopes. These slopes are sure to get your heart racing.
Night skiing - It is offered in 3 slopes. The slopes are well flood-lit. Enjoy night skiing in the StionLinga, Leg Crosets, and Morgins. Take your skiing experience to another level as you go for night skiing. The operating time and days differ for each of the 3 slopes.
