Reaching Nakiska Ski Area



The Nakaskia is the closest mountain to Calgary that is approximately 83 kilometres or 52 miles (from the city limits of Calgary to be precise. This entire journey will not last more than 40 minutes. If you have your own vehicle then it might take even lesser time.

The TELUS Winter Sports School at Nakiska Ski Area has been developed on a unique philosophy with respect to skiing and snowboarding. The instructors who are employed here also are trained in the highest grade and they too carry all the necessary certifications. They have a wide range of programs to choose from. This not only allows you to enrol yourself into what is necessary but also learns effectively. Further, it is important to note that seats are limited so you must enrol at the earliest. Finally, the various options made available for you are listed below:

o    The Nakiska Kids Multi Week Sports School: As the name suggests this particular program specifically caters to the requirements of the children. By enrolling in this school your kids will have the most fun on snow as is otherwise possible. Irrespective of the skill levels of your children this is the ideal point where they can come and improve.

  • Days of the program: The courses are held during Saturdays or on Sundays
  • Session time: The timings of the program are divided into two broad blocks of 2 and 4 hours each and are as follows – 9:30 am or 1:30 pm and 9:30 am and 1:30 pm.

It is also important to note that the 4 hour long program does not take place all together at once instead they take place in batches of 2 hours each with some time is dedicated in the interim for rest.

o    Group Clinics and Coaching: Irrespective of it being your first time or you being an expert there is no harm in attending the school and refreshing your present skill sets. This particular program is helpful for everyone where you can come in and push yourselves keeping in mind your expertise level. Mentioned below are a few pointers which one must keep in mind –

  • Since the number of seats is limited therefore make the bookings early.

  • Adults: The dedicated sessions for adults is made available daily at – 9:30 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm. The class ratio is maintained by the school at 1:10 and is amiable at the following rates:

  5. Half Day: These are typical regular season wherein the session lasts for 1.5 hours and will cost you, CAD, $82.
  6. Half Day: Each session lasts for an hour and a half and includes full day’s worth of lift tickets and rentals, and will cost you, CAD, $179.
  7. Half Day: This is particularly meant for the holiday season and will cost you, CAD, $92.
  8. Half Day: Each of these Holiday Season Package includes sessions for 1.5 hours along with half day’s worth of lift tickets and rentals at CAD $196.

o    Private Classes: These classes have been further sub-divided into 4 categories –

  • Mini Monsters: Meant for kids between the ages of 3 and 4 years. These sessions can be enrolled in for CAD $90 or CAD $102. The other option that these guys can be given is the one with daycare facilities and is priced as follows –
  • Regular Season: CAD $110 is charged for half days lessons.
  • Peak Season: CAD $125 is charged for half days lessons.
  • Regular Season: CAD $134 is charged for full day’s less
  • Peak Season: CAD $149 is charged for full day’s lessons.
