December has arrived, perhaps the jolliest month of the year, the perfect scenario for warm book reading by a fireplace and some fun out in the inches thick snow showered upon us by Mother Nature. We begin to cozy up in the arms of loved ones reminiscing in memories that have been created in the past year. This season of the year is when everything suddenly turns beautiful by inches thick snow decoration. A weekend that lasts more than a month has begun, and plans have begun to be planned. It is about time we escape the mediocre life we have been living past year.

If you are planning a holiday with some fun in the snow, New Hermon Resort is the resort that you need that fits right into anyone’s budget. Located at 441 Newburg Hermon Maine which opened in 1964. The resort has both night skiing and day skiing.  New Hermon Mountain offers ski and snowboard lessons with professional staff at the resort, rental equipment at reasonable rates and snow tubing. There are varied options for lodging and dining options in the resort. The place also offers any jobs for the peak seasons (winter) for all those willing to make extra bucks.



Hermon Mountain Statistics


Base Elevation: 100 feet

Summit Elevation: 450 feet

Vertical Drop: 350 feet



The New Hermon Mountain consists of a 450 ft. summit with a base of 100 ft. and a vertical drop of 350 ft. The place has a skiable terrain of over 70 acres with snowmaking covering all the 70 acres to ensure guests of their non-stop winter fun as they paid for. The skiable terrain is divided into 20 trails serviced by three lifts in total. Opening from December this resort is open for about 102 days until March and has had experience in entertaining customers for over half a century. The resort has an average annual snowfall of 90 inches.

Skiing and Snowboarding


The New Hermon Mountain Ski Area has 20 trails of which 40% are beginner runs, 30% are for intermediate runs and 30% for advanced runs. They have snow all the time we need with their newly equipped state-of-the-art snow guns covering all of the skiable 70 acres of land. If you lack the equipment or need them fixed or optimized, then they the resort offers latest rentals according to your requirements. Lessons are also provided who need a good learning experience, especially for beginners. The lessons are charged according to the plan and age group of selection.

TUBING

Slide along in tubes with more than a 600 ft. run at New Hermon Mountain which is serviced by its own lift. All you have to do is simply sit in the tube and slide down the mountain. Once you have prepared for tubing and are at the top, prepare for the thrill of a lifetime. Tubing is valid for participants over the age of 3 years. Experience the thrill of sliding without any annoying hindrances like a walk back up the summit. There are specially designed chutes at the mountain for the convenience of participants.

Lessons

There are different packages for different people as per their comfort level and the group selected at the New Hermon Mountain. The prices for lessons do not include ticket costs. Group Lessons are offered every weekend and every day during Christmas which cost $20 per person, and each session lasts for an hour and a half. Private lessons are offered almost every day on a prior notice basis; cost is $35 per person, and each session lasts 1 hour.

The four-week learn to ski program is for both children and adults. For Children, the classes are offered on Saturday or Sunday at 9:30 am with the cost for the lesson being $100. This charge includes a half-day lift ticket and a lesson. Rentals are offered at half price for those who paid for lessons. Adult classes are usually on offer on Friday nights at 6:00 pm and cost is $150 per person it includes lesson, lift ticket and complete rentals.

The four-week learn to snowboard program is for both children and adults conducted twice a season at the same time as the ski program.  The program has same rules and costs as the learn to ski program. These lessons may be group or private and have same rates as that of skiing.

Rentals

 

 

The rentals at the resort are available equipment for every age and size, right from preschool size 5 to Men’s size 15. Rates for complete Ski Package which includes skis, poles, and boots are for a full day all ages $20, for the half day all ages $15.  Rates for complete Snowboard Package which includes skis, poles, and boots are for a full day all ages $20, for the half day all ages $15.

The endurance Ski or Snowboard Rental cost $35. For tuning the equipment, the rates for hot waxing of skis are $12 for adult and $9 for junior. The rates for hot waxing of snowboards are $14 for adult and $10.5 for junior. The rates for hot waxing and edge sharpening of snowboards are $25 for adult and $18.75 for junior and rates of same for snowboards are $22 for adult and $16.75 for junior. The Binding Remount Adjustment, Drill Tap for ski equipment cost $12 to $30.

Tickets

 

 

The New Hermon Mountain has over 70 acres of the skiable area which is served by three lifts of which one double chair and two surface lifts. Children aged 4 and under and seniors aged 70, and above can ski or snowboard free of cost.

The ticket charges for tubing depend on the day of visitation. For adults on full days, ticket costs $27 and junior aged below 12 cost $22, on half days ticket costs $22 and junior cost $17.

Season Pass

A season pass for unlimited skiing for adults ticket costs $275 and junior aged below 12 cost $175, students aged 13 to 18 with valid ID proof are charged $215. Family Passes cost $175 for the first pass, $195 for the second pass and $155 for all other passes.

The New Hermon Mountain overall is a below average among ski resorts, though well suited for beginners and intermediates for good practice in skiing. The passes and tickets are at a reasonable rate and have many discounts to which conditions apply. The New Hermon Mountain is known for a fun family time and has fetched many great reviews over the years. Smaller Mountain as compared to others does not have many trails comparatively. The instructors here are professional and are very friendly and make sure that you get a solid knowledge of the basics.

They offer activities and amenities such as restaurants, lounges and entertainment centers for families. Despite being a small mountain, it has less crowded slopes and a variety of terrain. Tubing is always fun for all ages; the tubing park has its own lift, so you do not need to drag yourself back to the top and has about 3-5 lanes which are about 100 feet vertical drop. As for the half pipe, it is not so good comparatively as they lack specialized equipment. There is only one building at the base which is the lodge and consists of rentals, food, and about twenty arcade games. There is great night skiing at the resort; you can ski till ten on a weekday and Saturday nights.
