Skiing

Skiing is the prime tourist activity in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl. Standing at an elevation of 5882 ft. (1793 m)-1011 ft. (308 m), its high altitude snow is guaranteed. However, to ensure just the best, powder snow during late spring is maintained by modern snow making facilities. 99% of all shops are well equipped with artificial snowmaking system and hence ranked top. Lifts

A total of 24 lifts, which include eight-seater chair lifts, 7 T-Bar lifts, seven gondolas and two conveyors with a capacity of 39400 persons/hour are available at the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski resort area.

The total length of 110 Km (68.35 miles) is the ski run area, of which approx. 54 Km (33.55 miles) is covered by Hochgurgl ski area, and 56 Km (34.79 miles) is covered by Obergurgl ski area. Out of 110 Km (68.35 miles), 35 Km (21.74 miles) are easy ski runs, 55 Km (34.17 miles) are intermediate ski runs, and 20 Km (12.42 miles) are difficult ski runs. Different lifts are dedicated to different abilities of skiers.

 

For beginners and novice skiers is Gaisberg lift, Mahelstuhl lift or the practicing slope. Skiers with intermediate abilities can avail skiing in Festkogi ski area in Obergurgl and Schermerspitze ski trail. Experts can explore the steep Hoche Mut ski run in Obergurgl and Hochgurgl, the challenging Mogul piste down from Top-Wurmkoge II. The Longest ski run is between Wurmkogl and Obergurgl, covering a distance of 8 km (4.97 miles) and 1,260 m (4133.85 ft.) altitude difference. For the skiers wanting to ski at expert level, Hohe Mut Alm- Gaisberg, mogul piste in Obergurgl and Top Mountain Star-Warmkogl middle station in Hochgurgl are said to be the most difficult ones.

 

Sports enthusiast have the opportunity to learn sports techniques from experienced ski trainers at ski resorts for alpine skiing, carving, snowboarding, and cross country skiing. There are separate programs for kids too.

 

Cross country skiing

Valley offers more than 195 Km (121.16 miles) of well-maintained cross-country skiing tracks. Great options for the ones seeking endurance training at high altitudes are available. The track covers 12 Km (7.45 miles) of Nordic ski trails, 3 Km (1.86 miles) of practicing tracks and 1 km (0.62 miles) is fitted with floodlights in Hochgurgl. Touchless data cards can be availed with ski passes. The good thing is that these ski passes do not require insertion into control machines and the turnstiles open automatically. Also, on returning these ski pass in undamaged condition, there is a full refund deposit. Obergurgl- Hochgurgl has collaboration with Tirol Snow Card, offering unlimited skiing fun in 86 ski area.

 

An advance online ski ticket shop option is also available where you can purchase ski pass online for 2-7 days. The process involves online payment and receipt of pick up code in return which gets you ski pass at the cash desk.

 

For the kids

Wiesenthal Children’s Area
