People ahead have the right-of-way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above.
Before starting downhill or merging onto a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
If you are involved in or witness a collision or accident, you must remain at the scene and identify yourself to the Ski Patrol.
Always use proper devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
Observe and obey all posted signs and warnings.
Keep off closed trails and closed areas.
You must not use lifts or terrain if your ability is impaired through use of drugs or alcohol.
You must have sufficient physical dexterity, ability and knowledge to safely load, ride and unload lifts. If in doubt, ask the lift attendant.

The same institution also requires you to observe the following – Nordic Skier’s Responsibly Code which is basically in addition to the ones that are mentioned above:

Ski in indicated direction and observe all signs
Ski to the right when passing or skiing a double track.
Descending skiers always have the right of way.
Don’t litter. Pack it in, pack it out…and respect private property.
Don’t obstruct the trail. Move off the track quickly if you fall or while taking a break.
Yield the track to faster skiers or skiers saying “track” by stepping off to the right.

The Rafters Lounge

There are bars and then is the Rafters Lounge. It has been awarded as the number one, the best-known ski area bar in the whole of North America by the Powder Magazine. This is one hell of an acknowledgement.

The Rafters Lounge is situated on the top floor of the Day Lodge and it commences its services quite early in the morning that is at 11 am. Dinner services are also available and they can be availed between Wednesdays and Saturdays till 9 pm. Secondly, the atmosphere is indeed family oriented and the staff makes sure that nothing goes haywire. Because of this reason children too are welcome here at the Rafters Lounge.

Now, the entire structure of the Day Lodge is not just any building. It has a unique history of its own. So, back in the day, during the latter parts of the 1800s to be precise, the building served as a compressor building for the Black Bear Mine. Mining and collier towns have had a distinct history and demography if you will and if you are a history buff then the past of this region could be an added advantage for you.

Since then the structure has undergone quite a number of changes. Sometime in the year 1948, it was moved to the base of the Red Mountain where it was transformed into what is today known as the Day Lodge. At around this time the Red Mountain Resort was also developing and the Day Lodge was to become an integral part of the entire design. In-fact the Red Mountain Resort was the only third such powder destination to be opened in North America. Moreover, as far as the Lodge is concerned it first was used as a dormitory for the visitors. The Day Lodge also provided locker services for the club members. Later on, the management and the various staff members of the ski hill began residing in here.

Then in the year 1974 the top most floor of the Day Lodge was converted into the Rafters – a bar par excellence. There was nothing like it in the whole continent. Just over two years ago the Red Resort underwent a massive transformation but being true to its spirit the Day Lodge was preserved in its truest of authentic forms. It was indeed an intentional move on the part of the management to keep this historic bar alive. Visitors can often be found amazed by the original timbers that form the structure of the bar. These elements date back to the 19th century and add to the pervading rustic essence – it is almost like a consecrated structure.

Furthermore, the feel once you enter the Rafters Lounge is of that of a clubhouse. This is created more or less because of the warm wooden floors that are well-worn. It is a perfect integration which compliments the Red Mountain. Finally, the derivative experiences are almost fantastical – sometimes like a fairy tale indeed. One might find it similar to any vintage bar that is typically located in your neighborhood and is also appreciated by one and all, locals and outsiders alike. However, the Rafters Lounge is of-course more than that. It has become a shrine for the local folks and like a pilgrim destination for powder lovers.

One can find the Rafters Lounge can still be found to be filled to the brim with lore and enthusiasts year after year. There is a dedicated section for your little ones in the bar – guess what parents you guys can have fun without an ounce of sweat. Come here to enjoy the perfect environment with some of the most delicious items – try anything from their top notch menu you will love them all. And, of-course there is the alcohol and music.
