Snow Kind Mountain Resort – The Perfect Destination for Ski Lovers!

Once, Jackson Hole had no other mode of travel other than skiing. It has been proven through local history that such was the case in the 1900s. With the improvement in transportation, skiing soon transformed from a mode of transportation to a recreational sport. Snow King Mountain located right in the town was perhaps the most convenient for skiing, as the forestation at its foot had been cleared off due to a forest fire in 1879. Hiking too began on this mountain, as skiers thought it a suitable option since the 1920s. CCC, or Civilian Conservative Cops, in 1936 started the long process of modifying this mountain to become more suitable to the needs of recreational activities.

Today, at over 440 feet, the resort happens to have the highest vertical drop in the whole of America. The resort spans over half of Apres Vous and Rendezvous Mountains and its terrains are among the most challenging terrains ever, with a 10% beginner, 40% intermediate, and 50% expert runs out of a total of a hundred and sixteen runs. The longest run is 7.2 kilometers. It has thus become home to the best freeskiers of America and has a vertical drop of over 4139 feet.  The top elevation is at 10,450 feet, while the base elevation is at 6311 feet.

The inbound skiable area is 2500 acres, while the backcountry skiable area is 3,000 acres. The lift system is also pretty immaculate, with one tram, one gondola, eleven chairlifts (four high-speed quads, four fixed quads, one fixed grip triple, two fixed grip doubles, one magic carpet and one rope tow). The snowfall reaches up to 459 inches.

During the summer season, there are innumerable activities that you can indulge in, like the Cowboy Coaster (Weigand Sports USA built this mountain coaster that was completed in 2015 near the Rafferty Lift on the Eastern side of the mountain. At the base of the ride, the carts can be unloaded and loaded by the guests. With a track that goes over 43 feet off the ground, this ride lasts for some 5.5 minutes, going through spectacular views of the Jackson Hole Valley and the Teton Range), treetop adventure ( Outplay Adventures built this Ariel adventure park and inaugurated it in November 2015 on the Eastern side of the mountain.  It has an impressive total of a hundred games and challenges that include zip lines, Swinging logs, Ariel skateboards, suspended bridges and Tarzan Swings).

You can also test out your golfing skills in the mini golf (a product of Harris Miniature Golf Company, it is on the eastern side of the mountain), horseback riding, paragliding ( at 195 dollars, Tandem Paragliding gives you a taste of the skies in comfortable chair harnesses with an instructor, who is an assured and experienced mountain pilots with excellent records in term of their client’s safety), Bungee trampoline (operates mostly during the peak of summer season, and keeps your safety before anything else), Hiking (this is one of the most popular activity, with 450 meters of steep climb, is a challenge to beginners and no less than a work out for those who have acquired experience. Remember to purchase tickets at the base). There are also other activities, like  Scenic lift (chairlift rides that take you through the beautiful sceneries of the valley) and Airplane slide.

One of the more impressive features of the resort is the Kings Grill Restaurant. Although relatively new, it has accumulated a favorable reputation due to its family friendly American food. The menu is diverse in the sense that most things that you can crave for in such an environment are available here, like Hamburgers, hot dogs, ice-cream, pizzas, and so on. During the winters, the resort becomes all the more fun, with all sports activities that one can possibly want and the thrill that it provides is often incomparable.

The snow sports available are:

Ski Hill:
No matter how seasoned a skier is, he will find a challenge in the lower 48 race course, that is north facing and steep. The lower mountain is majorly blue and green terrain with three chairlifts, namely, Rafferty, Summit, and Cugar.

Ice Climbing: Exum Mountain Guides operates the Exum Ice Park, which is the best possible venue to practice ice climbing. Love Ridge Condominium complex stands before the retaining wall on which it is built. The 40-foot wall is frequently sprayed with water so that it becomes the perfect spot to learn the basics and practice advanced skills. People at any level of expertise in ice climbing are offered classes by Aerial Boundaries. Do it as a means to pass some spare time, or as a means to tuck another accomplishment under your belt, but do not miss this adrenaline rush for anything in the world!

King Tubes: When snow tubing is assisted by a smooth groomed run and a rope tow, it becomes a fun winter sport suitable for all ages with no skill requirement whatsoever. The tube rentals are included in the tickets, and all you need is to be above 3 feet 6 inches to enjoy the ride.

Nordic Skiing/Snow Shoeing: At the Snow, King Mountain’s summit, the Snow king has introduced it’s very own, groomed snowshoeing and Nordic skiing trail. The local Nordic skiers’ community has tried out the trail in hopes of expanding the Nordic skiing network in the area.

The skiing school itself has trained professionals who excel at their jobs and teach all levels of skiers, even if you are a beginner. They are committed to their job and to their student’s development and safety, be it little kids or the elderly. The kids are placed separately according to their level of skill after being tested in basic skills like stopping, climbing, turning and walking. They are then coached through to higher levels. The lessons are divided separately according to age and their fees, even having special offers for kids. The staff at the resort too is equally committed and passionate about their job.
