Lying right at the foot of the famous Arlberg, Sonnenkopf is one of the few ski resorts that boasts of natural snow. The base elevation of the ski resort is 1000 m (3281 ft.) while the summit elevation goes as high as 2300 m (7546 ft.). The total vertical drop is 1300 m (4265 ft.) and its ideal topological position make it a perfect destination for sports enthusiasts. Skiing, tobogganing, carving, Apres ski, winter hiking- the varied recreational activities help you to experience the true beauty of winter! The average skiable area in Sonnenkopf is 0.18 km2(45 acres) with a total of 16 runs.

 

Nine lifts and cable cars make the entire ski resort accessible to the guests. These lifts have a remarkable capacity of 13469 passengers per hour. Of these, there are four chairlifts, 3 T-bar lifts, an 8-seater gondola lift and one beginner lift in the ski resort. The total distance covered by the lifts is 7.2 km (4.5 mi). There are two people movers available as another type of ascension mechanism. The lifts operate daily from 8.45 am – 4 pm. A total of 4 km (2.5 mi) of ski routes and 29.5 km (18.3 mi) of slopes are available for snowboarding and skiing. Wonderful ski slopes

The slopes at the Winter sports area are groomed extensively with natural snow. The ski resort receives ample natural snow and as such does not require artificial snow making equipment. The longest run, the Vermalen run, covers a total distance of 7.5 km (4.6 mi) with an elevation difference of 1300 m (4265 ft.). It starts from the Glattingrat and goes all the way down to the base station in Klösterle. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, a ski bunny or a slope magician, young or young at heart: Sonnenkopf offers varied runs where everyone has their own magical skiing experience.

 

Blue slopes – About, 43% of the slopes, are easy and ideal for beginners. Most of the ski resort has easy slopes. They cover 12.8 km (8 mi) of the total runs. For the newbies to snowboards and skis, there is a people mover and lift at the mountain station of the feeder lift. The Obermuri and Riedkopf chairlifts are perfect for beginners as they provide access to the easy slopes.

 

Red slopes – There is an excellent mix of easy and intermediate slopes at Sonnenkopf. More than 50% of the slopes are challenging enough to get categorized as red slopes. The eastern part of the ski resort has abundant intermediate level slopes. The total distance covered by these slopes is 15.9 km (9.8 mi).

 

Black slopes – There is just one black slope in the ski resort, but it is demanding even for experienced skiers. The No. 10 black slope stretches from Bärenloch slope to Klostertal, covering a total distance of 0.8 km (0.5 mi) with an elevation difference of 236 m (774 ft.). Some freeride and deep snow areas are also available.

 

 

 

Freeriding

The Sonnenkopf ski resort offers one of the most beautiful freeride ski area. There is a challenging and vast area at the Glattingrat double chairlift where free riders can get their money’s worth. For those who love adventure and unspoiled freerides, they can try various challenging tours of approximately 3 km (1.86 mi) in length; it runs downhill towards the Nenzigasttal.

 

Snowshoe and winter hiking

The panoramic vistas of the snow-laden mountains are extremely captivating. Sonnenkopf offers three different winter hiking trails for you to explore the splendid winter landscape. Enjoy a relaxing and peaceful walk along the 1.5 km (0.9 mi) long Spielhahn hiking trail or on a 2 km (1.24 mi) long winter hiking trail. The solitude offered by these pacifying mountains is unparalleled. For nature enthusiasts who want to spend more time in the spectacular valleys, the ski resort offers a 7 km (4.3 mi) long trail across Muttjöchle. The beauty of the mountains will fill you with new energy. All the trails have well-equipped, wind-protected and cozy rest benches. Tobogganing

Tobogganing attracts skiers and non-skiers alike. It is an attractive leisure activity offered at Sonnenkopf. Rent a toboggan and get ready for an exciting 2 km (1.24 mi) long journey. Your exhilarating experience begins at the mountain station. Sled through the snowy slopes to reach the middle station. Several steep ridges add a streak of thrill to the whole tobogganing experience. During a stopover at Bündthütte, you can enjoy the pure view of the traditional mountain huts. Tobogganing is a very old winter sport, but it will definitely set your heart racing as you drift down the slopes.

 

Apres-Ski

After skiing all day long, who wouldn’t love to take refuge in the relaxing yet exciting Apres-ski. You can enjoy the Apres-ski party in the popular Kelo bar at the valley station of Sonnenkopfbahn. Food and Accommodation

There is a total of 3 mountain restaurants and ski huts in Sonnenkopf. Located at approximately 2000 m (6560 ft.), the panoramic restaurant Bergrestaurant offers delicious food. It is known for its good wine and beautiful view of the Alps. The mountain hut, Bündthütte, specializes in regional delicacies. It is set up in a rustic environment and gives a fantastic view of the forests and mountains wrapped up in white snow. The ice bar is a snow beach where you can chill out.
