Sundance: The Most Famous of them All

The conception of Sundance Mountain Resort dates back to the year 1969 when a certain Robert Redford began purchasing the landholdings which cumulatively is what today is known as Sundance Mountain Resort. The basis of all his efforts was his commitment towards the local community. He had this immense desire to develop the property with careful precision so that it could one day grow while at the same time incorporating nature and the arts leading up to harmonious coexistence.

Sundance as a whole today is associated with not only the American but yon global cultural heritage. If you are familiar with the historical milieu of the region then you must know that the Ute tribes hold an inspirational motif behind the development of the estate. The Ute tribes resided in the very canyon back in the early parts of the 20th century. They were the Stewarts, immigrant families from the Scottish mainland. Furthermore, it was in-fact the second generation of this family who first developed the mountain and its surrounding region into a popular skiing destination. The first resort that came about was known as the Timp Haven and the local folks quite fondly reminisce over their memories from this resort.

In the due course, many investors came through and began putting their money into developing the grand picturesque locale as a one of a kind destination. However, Robert Redford was apprehensive when it came to the erection of expansive condominiums and went on to develop in a minimal manner while preserving the natural paraphernalia. Redford was probably the only opposing force who stood against the investors from New York who were hell-bent on constricting a whole range of lucrative hotels and attractions. He, on the other hand, wanted to preserve his acquisition into a sanctuary dedicated towards environmental conservation and artistic experimentation.

By the year 1981, the locale also became home to the Sundance Institute which was then followed by the Sundance Catalogue which was introduced in the year 1988. Many of the writers, directors and artists whom you adore or worship have found solace and run their creativity wild in this very canyon. Sundance is without a doubt unique and over the years has developed an amazing blend by incorporating varied dynamisms resulting in a place which is highly sought-after. All these factors have enabled the resort to become infamous as an unchartered territory making it an even more lucrative sale.

Robert Redford had famously said the following with respect to Sundance:

“People here come from all walks of life, but one belief is shared: our community should represent who we are and what we believe. Sundance is an arts community, a recreational community, a community of people who appreciate the beauty of nature and feel the responsibility to preserve it. We want to help you find those elements of the Sundance experience which will most meet your needs and your dreams. As you’ll see, Sundance has many shapes, many moods, and many possibilities. Somewhere in our community awaits an experience which belongs to you and we are committed to helping you find it.”

The Vision

Sundance Statistics

Base Elevation: 6100 feet

Summit Elevation: 8250 feet

Vertical Drop: 2150 feet

The founder and current leader of Sundance, Robert Redford have shared their dream in which he and his associates want to create an environment which is unspoilt and remains authentic to its very fabric. Through these measures, they indented to generate experiences which are intimate and natural when it comes to the mountainous resort. Here art, nature and commerce together exist in a unique, harmonious manner which goes on to inspire people, voices and more importantly ideas. Moreover, this is exactly their mission as well, to passionately create certain transformative experiences.

This very philosophy has given birth to many powerful businesses in and around the region. Today, Sundance, the name itself stands synonymous with independent thought and more so, creative execution. It is the master representative of innovation and change through its various manifestations. Though Sundance Preserve, Sundance Institute, Sundance Resort, Sundance Channel and the Sundance Catalog, they are able to affect millions of lives on a daily basis.
