Tussey Mountains- An all Season all Rounder


Through winter, spring, summer and again fall- Tussey Mountains in the place to be! From go-karting to boating, celebrating weddings, going fishing to skiing and snowboarding this proves to be an all-rounder resort for all seasons and something to do for all ages! The Tussey Mountain Ski Area is nestled in Boalsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania, close to the State College and Penn State University. Tussey Mountain offers skiing on a vast area of 50 acres with three ski and snowboard lifts and one snow tube lift. Their unique snowmaking system covers 90% of skiable terrain, just like the slope lighting. They are typically open for skiing, boarding, and tubing in December, running through middle (to late) March.

Vertical Drop: 520 feet



You can enjoy skiing at a vertical drop of 500 feet in the Tussey Mountains. There seven trails out of which 30% are for beginners, 45% for the intermediate and 25% for advanced skiers. The green or beginner trails include Lion’s way, Deer Run, and Little Bear. The blue and intermediate runs include Grizzly, Utah, Lower Tuscarora and Lower Shamokin. The black and advanced runs include Upper Tuscarora and Upper Shamokin. 38 acres of skiable land is offered, the longest run being 0.75 miles. There are five lifts which include one quad, one double, one tow, 1 T-bar and one tube tow. Night skiing is allowed and is a favorite feature amongst the visitors. The Terrain Park includes boxes, rails, pipes and assorted jumps.

Snow Tube Park


Hold on to your gloves, boots, and hat! The snow tubing is a unique ride like no other!  Merrily jump into the tube and let it sweep you off your feet as it swoops down the slopes of the Snow Tube Park. Relax as the tube does all the work as gravity sends you down the maintained lanes as the chilly air kisses your cheeks. Once you reach the bottom get up on your feet, return to your line and repeat!

Each person must ride in their own tube. The minimum age for this ride is four years old. An adult must accompany the children if the latter are aged between 4 and 9. Ski boots are not permitted here. Since space is limited, it is recommended to arrive early. Group rates are available for ten people or more. Season Pass holders receive a whopping 20% discount on this ride! An all-day pass for the Snow Tube Park costs a minimal $32. The 3-hour pass worth $25 is also available.

Learn to Ski and Snowboard!


The best way to get to ski or snowboard is with the help of a pro – and Tussey Mountains have got a friendly lot of them! Lessons are offered at the Tussey Mountain every day. You have to make reservations beforehand to avail private lessons, but that is not needed for group lessons. You need to arrive at the ticket office half an hour before your desired group lesson timing to ensure your place in the class.

Group lessons cost $25 for adults and $22 for kids. The timings for group lessons are 1 pm, 3 pm, and 6.30 pm. On weekends there is an extra class held at 11 am.  There are also three lesson packages to choose from namely Paw prints, Little Bear, and All mountain. There are private lessons offered for $50 for adults and $45 for kids. An additional hour costs $20, and additional student will cost only $20.

Amphitheatre

Tussey Mountains isn’t just about the winters. There are a whole lot of events planned out especially for you at the amphitheater! The Tussey Mountain Amphitheater delivers an outdoor music experience which proves to be the best in Central PA. Favorite events that the crowds here love include the Wingfest, Celticfest, Oktoberfest, and so many other special events!

Movies on the Mountains!

Ditch the mainstream movie theater for this one! Imagine tucking into your warm blankets and enjoying your favorite movie flicks outdoors right under the stars! Good news for all movie buffs- admission for this year 2016 is free courtesy humble people at Penn State Health. The gates are opened for visitors at 8 pm and the movie start at 9 pm.

The usual classic popcorn will be available along with beverages, hot dogs, ice creams and other food items typically not allowed in the movies.  Don’t forget to bring your blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy this unique movie experience at the Tussey Mountains! The movies this year include Charlotte’s Web, Jurassic World, and Inside Out! What the Deck

Things just couldn’t get better with live music and great food every Thursday at Tussey Mountains. Hold on to those summer vibes as long as you can for this is the ultimate fall event. This is definitely the best outdoor place in town to hang out with friends.

WingFest

WingFest held at Tussey Mountain has been attracting hungry crowds to the slopes on Thursdays during summer days for the last 17 years. Thousands arrive for the competition, some for the amity and the entertainment, and as up to 30 local restaurants and 14 top local and national bands participate each season.

This event has constantly evolved over these years into its current form as a democratic competition decided by the people’s vote — each paid guest through the gate receives one vote ticket which can be cast off to select your favored wing vendor of the night. Votes are tallied at night, and a winner is announced by the end of the show.

Summer Lovin’

When the snow melts, the real summer fun starts here at the Tussey Mountain! Spin around the track with our exclusive Go-Karts. Visit the newest Miniature Golf course in Central PA, the Mountain Mini-Golf course! This 18 hole, Par 42 course is suited for all ages and abilities! Don’t forget to grab your Friday Special includes 2 Rounds for $10! You won’t ever need to worry about running out of enjoyment and ecstasy. Driver rental is also available here.

Picnic by the pond


Outdoor barbecues are a way of life in the summertime. The Tussey Mountains provides its guests with a wonderful picnic spot! They have a beautiful outdoor deck off at the back of Lodge as well as a pond-side pavilion. In addition to an appealing menu with various options, they also offer several outdoor activities including go-karting, mini-golf, driving range, batting cages, horseshoes, a skate park and a catch-and-release fishing pond. Paddleboats are available exclusively for picnickers. Grounds are available for evening use until 10 pm. You can also purchase the Fun Centre Wristband: which includes unlimited Mini Golf, Par 3 Golf, Driving Range and Skate Park use, club rental, 3 Go-Kart tickets and 2 Batting Cage tokens.

Schedule and Rates

Tussey Mountain Resort is traditionally open on Thanksgiving weekends but its winter season starts from mid-December all the way to April. It is open all their ski-loving visitors from 12 pm to 10 pm in the weekdays. Children who are aged 5 and under can ski free with a ticketed adult. There are provisions of purchasing half day tickets or full day ones. Half day tickets for the timings 12pm-5pm and 4pm-10pm are $35 for adults and $32 for kids.

A full day ticket with the timings 12 pm to 10 pm cost a $38 for adults and $35 for kids. There is also a two-hour ticket costing $20 for both adults and kids. The 2-hour tickets are sold 15minutes in advance of start times offered every half hour. The beginner, only area, needs tickets worth $20 to be purchased on both weekdays as well as weekends.

Please note that the resort is open from 9 am to 10 p.m. on all Saturdays and holidays. However on Sundays, though it opens early at 9 am it closes early at 5 pm. The two-hour ticket is only $30 for both adults and kids on weekends. The ticket prices on weekends range from $35 to $48 for different timings. Frequent skiers and snow lovers can purchase a Season Pass which offers a variety of deals on each sport and many privileges including no waiting in lines! Seniors (ages 65+) and military receive 50% off full price tickets (they must present valid ID).
