Situated at an elevation of 720 and 930 meters in the county of Fulda, Hesse, ski resort Wasserkuppe is the highest elevated ski resort in Hesse and always features among the top 3 resorts in the state as well. The nearest airports to reach Wasserkuppe are Frankfurt and Mannheim at a distance of 15 kilometers and 70 kilometers respectively from the resort. From the airport, local bus service or cabs are available which will escort you to your destination in time varying from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Slope Details::

This is literally the best thing about Wasserkuppe. The slope of the resort is simply one of the best you are going to find in Hesse. It offers a good playing turf to skiers and snowboarders at every level from amateurs to professional. This resort offers you a ski slope of 4.4 kilometers in total whose difficulty level is variable and is divided in 3 levels- Easy, Intermediate and Difficult. 27 percent (1.2 kilometers approx.) of the slope is termed as Easy and is good for people new to the sports. The next portion of 2 kilometer comprising of 46 percent of the total slope offer intermediate level of difficulty and last but not the least, the remaining 27 percent, i.e. 1.2 kilometer in total length is for the expert skiers who want some difficult terrains to challenge their skills. The slope is equipped with 5 artificial snow making cannons and these equipments cover 80 percent of the slope, so snow availability is surely not a problem. With the availability of valley runs for skiers and a fun snow park for kids, this resort is ideal deal for every winter sport enthusiast. 2.5 kilometers of the total slope are floodlit, so yes, they offer you the facility of night skiing as well. The night skiing fiesta continues for 6 days a week, excluding Sundays.



Ski lifts and ski pass prices:

Ski resort Wasserkuppe offers 6 lifts to carry the passengers from the base to the summit of the mountain they are situated on. First up is the 4-person Funicular with a length of 620 meters and carrying capacity of 900 persons on an hourly basis. The remaining 5 ski lifts are T-Bar/button lifts and each of them can carry up to 1000 people to the top in an hour. All lifts working together comprise of a total lift length of 3.5 kilometers and approximately 6000 passengers in duration of an hour. In spite of being such a good resort that offers good terrains to ski and a slope equipped with floodlights and snow cannons, their prices are very economical which makes them the most desirable place in every customer’s heart. They charge just 16 Euros for both adults and youth whereas children get a concession of 5 Euros and they have to pay 11 Euros for a single day pass. A pass for 4 hours is also available and costs 12 Euros for adults and youths alike. For the same pass, kids have to pay just 8 Euros.

Season and Timings:

The season at ski resort Wasserkuppe starts from mid December and concludes late in the month of March which gives you a window of more than 90 days, 99 precisely which is the average for all the ski resorts in Germany. They boast to offer 34 sunny days during the season and claim that January is the sunniest month of the season with 13 sunny days. The resort operates from 9AM till 10PM in the night as they also offer night skiing here. In addition to all the above features, they have a ski school and a snow board school where you can learn the basics or brush up your skills to take them a level higher.
