Snow has started to pile up, and children are diving into the snow, while the elders are worried about the snow that handicaps them from moving around from one place to another. Winter, the most celebrated season of the year is fast approaching. The inches thick snow, the holiday mood, and the family get-togethers make it a very memorable time to remember. With Santa around the corner, everyone is ready for his or her treats and gifts, growing expectations for a few surprises and parties. There is no better way to celeberate a happy time than to have a break from your everyday life and go up to the mountains to celebrate recess of your busy year.

Have any ideas for a trip for your escapade? Well, consider Windham Mountain to the rescue. It is located in the northern section of Catskill Mountains, in the town of Windham, New York. The place is well-known to be family friendly with an excellent hospitality to offer. It has a total of 12 lifts including two high-speed detachable quads located each from bottom to the top of the mountain, five surface lifts, one double chair and four triple chairs. The highest peak is 3,100 feet with a vertical drop of 1600 feet and a base of 1500 feet. Windham Mountain’s Snow Sports School ensures that their students excel at skiing by providing personal hands-on instruction.
The Mountain is open for 130 days starting from 18th of December. Snowmaking covers 98 % a total area of 269 skiable acres. There are 54 trails divided between two peaks, known as East Peak and West Peak. The trails are categorized depending on the level of expertise; there are 13 appointed to the beginner, 27 to intermediate and 17 to expertise.
It is the home of Adaptive Sports Foundation, providing the physical and intellectual disabled with skiing lessons. If you feel the urge for some night skiing, then the Mountain offers night skiing on 56 acres of land and also features six terrain parks. The Adventure Park is where all the magic begins. It includes ice skating, tubing, zip lines and much more. You could get seasonal passes starting from $199 per person up to $250 for a family pass.
Lift tickets can be purchased online until the day before your ride. The tickets come at a reasonable cost and value discounts and coupons if you have got any. Tickets once taken online or onsite are non-refundable, so make sure that you stick to your plan. Cost depends on the time of visit and the days along with the age of the visitor.
For ages 6 and under the ticket is at a fixed price of $10. Flex tickets are valid for 4 hours and available on mid-days of non-holiday periods. Night skiing is available on Holiday periods and Fridays and Saturdays. College students can get tickets at a lower price with their ID proofs, with Midweek $62, sunsets $42 and night at $36.
Up-Hill travel tickets are $10 for the day and allow skis and snowshoes only during daylight. The travelers are requested to be seated at the sides and to be visible and to inform someone their whereabouts for safety issues at all times.
Ride along in canvas tubes down a 650-foot snow slope at Windham Mountain. Lie down the tubes as you feel the adrenaline kick-through when you slide down solo or can take your friends along by tying up the tubes for a group run. Make sure that you qualify for the required height to get in and out of the tube, to experience this sport. It is ensured with snowmaking for best conditions possible. The rates depend on the hours you spend, $20 for 2 hours, $25 for 4 hours, $15 for Friday night special and a tubing value pack at $89.
A family-fun time with some ice skating located right next to the tubing area. The skating rink has dimensions of 120 X 60 and a warming center. You have skate rentals right where you need them, so you can swirl and slide on the ice gearing up for some fun. There are two sessions of ice skating held, one in the afternoon starts from 11 am to 3 pm and the other from 4:30 pm to 8 p.m. The costs are as low as 10$ per skating session and 5$ for rental per session.
Ski and Snowboard
Windham provides instructors for every age and level of expertise to help you have a better learning. They also offer fear counseling to get your inner strength and courage outside. There is a PowerLearn program, youth program, and an adult program, along with workshops to get your ideas and doubts clear. Windham Mountains has committed more than half a century to snow sports; their passion is proved by lying out five new trails in the past three years.
Power Learn program teaches anyone to ski on any terrain anytime they want to. It consists of four essentials Equipment, Technique, Psychology and Customized Learning all of which ensure you have a thorough learning. The ski-guru Mermer Blakeslee takes it upon himself to direct the students.
Youth Program guide kids to have a fun learning experience and make friends. The age range starts from 5 to 18 to get into this program. Starting from December, the program meets happen on every Saturday and Sunday continuing into March. A 14-week program is launched for kids aged 5-6 called mini mountaineers and 7-12 called mountaineers. It includes coaching for racing by professionals to become a pro and also snowboarding all of which are 14-week programs.
Adult Program is for people aged 19 and above to improve their skiing and riding skills. It also includes a racing program which includes an NASTAR pass, which gives us an enhanced experience of learning. The prices depend on full day or half day coaching that has been chosen.
50+ Midweek Program aimed at participants aged 50 and above. It runs for 8 Tuesdays each session being 4 hours long. It includes a Midweek pass valid for the entire season. For a one time pass which includes single day lift it costs about $75, for an 8-week session the cost ranges from $325 to $375 depending on the time of purchase.
Zippers get ready for a 500ft travel long two zip lines. Zippers must be between the weights of 80-270 pounds to participate in this advent. The two zipper lines glide at 40ft above the ground and connect at mid-station to another single zip-line. The rate per person for a single zip is $10 and twice for the same person is $15.
Winter fun for kids just reached another level with a 120cc Arctic Cat snowmobiles that are made just for kids. When you want your child to get excited about your skiing trip, this is it. The riders must be of age 6 and above and weigh less than 120 pounds. They must be signed in by a guardian. The driving track is ovular located at the lower level of the Adventure Park. A 5-minute session costs $10 including the helmet and instructions.
Winter this season will make you experience miles of an introductory-level cross country and snowshoe trails. These trails are marked and groomed near the Batavia Kill Creek.The rentals for snowshoe is $10 and skis, boots and poles at $15. The trail fee for an adult is $10, and junior is $6 for ages under six is free. The lessons cost ranges from $20 to $45 depending on the number of people in a group.
